Economy versus Ecology
The Connections between them from a global Perspective
There are connections between the economy and the ecology, but it is not possible to arrive at consensus. Too many intelligent people have tried to find a very special formula to solve the problem of the magic triangle, and the magic quadrangle of the national economy, which attempts to connect economic, ecological and public income problems. If somebody found the solution to these problem, the world would be perfect. The question to ask is: “Why does mankind ignore every warning signals it gets in the form of countless natural catastrophes?”, “And why does mankind prefer the economy to the ecology?”. “Will we respect nature since we have destroyed it?”, or “Would we have respect for nature if we had to pay for it?” If we go through the problem with a fine-tooth comb, we may find out that nature can defend itself, although we human beings cannot. We cannot defend ourselves against ourselves. It is only a matter of time until we have exploited our resources. It is only a question of virtue how long there will be a “civilization”. Saving our environment has taken on a new significance: Saving nature is the same as saving ourselves. Environmental activists have become philanthropists. It is also a question of money and of power to do something for nature. Politician’s actions and high profits are necessary to rescue our blue planet. It is simple, but not easy! As a future businessman, I hope I will be able to do something for the ecology. It should be a matter of course to improve our environment, because it is not only the best investment for our economic future, but also a irreplaceable resource. We should not destroying “miraculous” nature because “Nature R` Us”, which means that we ourselves are nature. On the other hand, we must go on with our modern wasteful economy. It is a vicious circle and we have to learn how to handle it in order to make appropriate decisions, which would help us to find out adequate conditions for a satisfying economy. We must be able to accelerate the economic growth without “useless” pollution. – Where there is a will, there is a way. If economists cannot understand this message, they should stop for a moment and enjoy the singing birds, the splashing waves, the shining sun and the fantastic scenery, which has still survived on this unique blue planet.
